Hai Zi (海子) was born in the wild in 1994 near Mianning County, Sichuan. Her exact birth date is not recorded — this update uses January 1, 1994 as a placeholder.
She was rescued in 1996 and entered the captive population managed by the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP), where she went on to become one of its most prolific mothers. Her descendants today span from Hong Kong (Le Le, #606) to Moscow (Ding Ding, #1087).
