On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Satrio "Rio" Wiratama (里奥) — the first giant panda ever born in Indonesia — made his first public appearance at the Panda Palace (熊猫宫) of Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) in Cisarua district, Bogor Regency, West Java (西爪哇省茂物县).
At 191 days old and weighing around 11 kilograms, Rio appeared alongside his mother Hu Chun (湖春, #794) — tumbling, climbing a wooden staircase and playing in front of delighted visitors, many of whom had travelled from Jakarta, Depok and nearby schools for the historic moment. Among the guests were Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto, representatives of the Chinese Embassy, TSI founder Jansen Manansang and president director Aswin Sumampau.
Manansang noted that the ideal age for pandas to go public is between five and six months, and that Rio was introduced only after being declared fit under strict animal health and welfare standards. Visitors are prohibited from tapping the glass enclosure or using camera flashes. TSI's gradual, time-limited viewing scheme continues, prioritizing the well-being of mother and cub.
