On May 30, 2026, Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) announced that Rio — Indonesia's first locally born giant panda — would gradually begin meeting visitors that day, following a comprehensive joint assessment by the park's life science and veterinary teams together with experts from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda.
The teams confirmed that Rio had reached the necessary physical and behavioral milestones: at 184 days old he weighed over 11 kilograms, could walk independently, interact actively with his mother Hu Chun (湖春, #794), and had begun eating bamboo shoots under a carefully managed nutritional transition.
In line with animal welfare norms and internationally recognized conservation standards, TSI adopted a gradual, time-limited approach to public viewing. The formal public debut at the park's Panda Palace followed on June 9, 2026.
