On June 28, 2026, giant panda Yuan Bao (圆宝) turned 6. Taipei Zoo was closed for annual maintenance that day, so visitors could not enter — but the zoo still held a birthday celebration for Yuan Bao and livestreamed it online, with many Taiwanese fans sending warm birthday wishes.
The zoo prepared a rich feast of bamboo, shaved ice, apples, sugarcane, kiwi, carrots, and corn, and arranged a "space adventure" themed art installation so Yuan Bao could enjoy exploring to her heart's content.
Fans left messages during the livestream wishing Yuan Bao a happy birthday, happiness every day, and healthy growth. Some expressed concern for her daily care and hoped keepers would look after her well. Others looked forward to the upcoming birthday celebrations for Yuan Zai on July 6 and Yuan Yuan on August 30.
Yuan Bao, born at Taipei Zoo in 2020, is the second cub of the cross-strait gift pandas Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan and the younger sister of Yuan Zai — Taiwan's first-born panda. At 6 years old, she has entered reproductive age.
