Short version
Cheng Shuang (成双, studbook #857) is a male giant panda born September 12, 2012 at Chengdu Base. Twin of Cheng Dui (成对), son of Cheng Ji (成绩). Cheng Shuang (Chinese: 成双, studbook number 857), nicknamed “Cheng Shuang Shuang” (成双双) and “Shuang Mei Er” (双妹儿), is a male giant panda born on September 12, 2012 at the Chengdu Research Base’s Sun Nursery (太阳产房), weighing 187.4 grams.
His mother is Cheng Ji (成绩) and his father is Fu Fu (福福). His twin brother is Cheng Dui (成对). His siblings include Ji You (绩优), Ji Li (绩丽), Ying Ying (迎迎), Cheng Da (成大), Cheng Xiao (成小), Cheng Jiu (成就), and Cheng Shi (成实).
Due to his genetics, Cheng Shuang was born with unusually light grey-white fur (灰白毛色), which gradually transitioned to normal black-and-white as he matured.
In 2013, Cheng Shuang, his twin Cheng Dui, Ao Li Ao (奥莉奥), and Miao Miao (淼淼) formed the legendary “Sun Nursery F4” (太阳产房小F4) under the care of foster mother Li Li (莉莉).
On February 4, 2014 (Spring Festival), the F4 appeared on CCTV News (新闻联播) — the newscast ended with the four cubs playing instead of the usual anchors, a moment that went viral and became one of the most beloved panda media moments in Chinese television history.
As a cub, Cheng Shuang was feisty and combative (活泼好斗), earning him the nickname “Little Warrior” (小战神). As an adult, he has mellowed into a quiet, gentle, and well-behaved character — he doesn’t compete for food and loves sleeping.
At Suzhou, his bamboo is sourced from Jinzhai, Anhui, and his exhibit is designed to mimic the Chengdu habitat.
