Short version
He Feng (荷风, studbook #1347), also known as Ke Yuan (科源), is a male giant panda born August 27, 2020 at the Wolong Shenshuping Base. Son of Han Yuan (汉媛), he moved to Vienna's Schönbrunn Zoo in April 2025 with female Lan Yun, reoccupying the pavilion that Long Hui and Yang Yang held for two decades.
Basic Profile
He Feng (Chinese: 荷风, also called Ke Yuan/科源, Austrian name He Feng/荷风), studbook number 1347, is a male giant panda born on August 27, 2020 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Wolong Shenshuping Base.
His mother is Han Yuan (汉媛, studbook 708), a female born in 2008 at the Bifengxia Base whose name commemorates Hubei’s reconstruction assistance to Hanyuan County after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. His siblings are Qi Lin (麒麟) and Tian Ke (甜可/可可).
Life Journey
He Feng entered the wild-training programme after birth. In 2024 he moved to the Ya’an Bifengxia Base, and in 2025 to the Dujiangyan Base.
Vienna (2025–present)
On April 23, 2025, He Feng and female panda Lan Yun (兰韵, studbook 1336, formerly Dun Dun/顿顿) departed for Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna under a ten-year Sino-Austrian research agreement, arriving the same afternoon. On May 14, 2025 the pair made their public debut in the zoo’s renovated pavilion.
They follow Long Hui (龙徽) and Yang Yang (阳阳), who occupied the same pavilion from 2003. Long Hui died there in December 2016; Yang Yang returned to China, as did the cubs born in Vienna — Fu Long, Fu Hu, Fu Bao and the twins Fu Feng and Fu Ban.
