Jin Yi

Jin Yi is a female giant panda born on 2011-08-06 at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. She is listed as studbook number 839 in the global giant panda breeding registry, which tracks individual captive pandas for population management efforts across China. She is the offspring of Gu Gu (studbook 612) and Xi Mei (studbook 599), both giant pandas housed at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda at the time of her birth. Her lineage is part of coordinated captive breeding programs designed to maintain genetic diversity for the species. Currently living at Dalian Zoo, Dalian, Liaoning Province, China, she participates in public education programming focused on giant panda ecology and species protection. Dalian Zoo hosts regular visitor engagement activities to raise public awareness of threatened wildlife conservation. As a captive-bred giant panda, Jin Yi demonstrates the species’ characteristic feeding behaviors, including spending up to 14 hours daily consuming bamboo.
