Xin Yuan (新媛, studbook #843) was a female giant panda born July 28, 2012 at Ya'an Bifengxia Base, twin sister of Yuan Xin (Le Bao, Korea). Daughter of Long Xin (龙欣) — the "Genius Panda Mother" — she underwent two years of mother-led wild training at Hetaoping, mastering foraging, predator avoidance, and shelter-building. Scheduled for release to Liziping Reserve in December 2014, she was found dead in her training enclosure on November 20, 2014. An autopsy revealed respiratory infection combined with intestinal parasites as the cause — a tragic loss that underscored the challenges of rewilding.
