Short version
Qing Feng (清风, studbook #688), also known as You You (酉酉), is a male giant panda born August 24, 2007 at Wolong Hetaoping Base. Son of Long Xin, he lived at Beijing Zoo, Yantai Zoo (where he was the star attraction for three years), and Yancheng Dafeng Port (where he was renamed after a local river). Since 2020, he has been part of the "National Treasure Group" — eight pandas relocated together to Hunan's Fenghuang China Panda Garden.
Qing Feng (Chinese: 清风, “Clear Wind”), also known as You You (酉酉) , studbook number 688, is a male giant panda born on August 24, 2007 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Hetaoping Base. His mother is Long Xin (龙欣, studbook 516) — the “Genius Panda Mother” — and his twin sister was Shui Ling (水灵), who passed away in 2010.
Through his mother Long Xin, Qing Feng’s siblings include Xi Wang, Fu Ni (Australia), Fu Wa/Xing Xing (Malaysia), You You, Han Yuan, Hu Xiao, and Yuan Xin/Le Bao (Korea).
Qing Feng’s travels began early. After a brief stop at Bifengxia in April 2009, he was sent to Beijing Zoo on May 29, 2009, spending nearly two years in the capital.
On April 27, 2011, Qing Feng arrived at Yantai Zoo in Shandong, where he and another panda named Hua Ao (华奥) became the zoo’s biggest attractions.
His time in Yantai was marked by enthusiastic birthday celebrations:
On June 10, 2014, Qing Feng and Hua Ao said farewell to Yantai. Local news covered their departure with genuine sadness — the pandas had been beloved figures in the city for three years. The official reason given for their return: at age 7, both pandas had reached breeding age and needed to return to Sichuan to “marry and have children” (娶妻生子).
On August 18, 2014, Qing Feng (now You You) and Long Sheng (now Mao Mao) arrived at Yancheng Dafeng Port Panda Paradise in Jiangsu. The renaming ceremony tied the pandas to local geography — the Er Mao You River — and the pair became community mascots.
Qing Feng returned to the Dujiangyan Base on December 3, 2019 before his final relocation.
On May 30, 2020, Qing Feng was one of eight pandas — the “National Treasure Group” — loaded onto specialized transport for a simultaneous relocation to the newly opened Fenghuang China Panda Garden in Hunan Province. The group ranged from seasoned travelers like Qing Feng (at 13, the veteran of the convoy) to six younger pandas born in 2017 who were making their first long-distance journey.
The Fenghuang facility — located in the Wuling Mountain range — was built specifically to house the group, with a dedicated panda hospital, kitchen, and 12 keepers. At Fenghuang, Qing Feng continues to live as a calm, well-traveled elder statesman among a younger generation of pandas.
