Her mother is Hai Zi (海子, studbook 544). She has a twin brother You You (酉酉) and several siblings including Le Le (乐乐, 606), Xiang Ge (香格), Xiang Lin (香林), and Xin Xin (鑫鑫).


Journey to Russia

On April 29, 2019, Ding Ding and Ru Yi departed for Moscow Zoo. Upon arrival, she was initially timid — keepers hand-fed her cut food to help her adjust. Within days, she began to settle in.

Growth

Ding Ding arrived weighing 56 kg. By 2023, she had grown to approximately 116 kg, reflecting excellent care at Moscow Zoo.


Motherhood

In spring 2023, Ding Ding and Ru Yi successfully mated for the first time under Chinese expert guidance. On August 24, 2023, Ding Ding gave birth to a female cub — Katyusha (喀秋莎). This was the first giant panda ever born in Russia.

Katyusha weighed 1,985 grams by October 2023. She opened her eyes, grew teeth, and took her first steps by December 2023.


Life at Moscow Zoo

Ding Ding’s diet consists primarily of fresh bamboo and shoots flown in from Sichuan. Moscow Zoo maintains cold storage to preserve freshness. For the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Ding Ding participated in a medal prediction activity, correctly choosing the Chinese flag.

Her birthday on July 30 is celebrated annually. In 2025, she received a blue-and-gray robot-shaped paper toy filled with treats as a birthday gift.
