Short version

Dun Dun (顿顿, studbook #1336), also known as Lan Yun (兰韵), is a female giant panda born July 29, 2020 at the Wolong Shenshuping Base. Daughter of Bao Bao (the Smithsonian-born female), she moved to Vienna's Schonbrunn Zoo in April 2025 alongside He Feng — becoming the new generation of pandas in Austria following the legendary Long Hui and Yang Yang.

Basic Profile

Dun Dun (Chinese: 顿顿, also called Dou Ban/豆伴, Austrian name Lan Yun/兰韵), studbook number 1336, is a female giant panda born on July 29, 2020 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Wolong Gengda Shenshuping Base.

Her mother is Bao Bao (宝宝, studbook 897) — the female cub born at the Smithsonian National Zoo in 2013 to Tian Tian and Mei Xiang. Her brothers are Bao Li (宝力) — who went to the Smithsonian in 2024 — and Bao Yuan (宝元).

The Smithsonian Dynasty

Dun Dun represents the third generation of one of the most famous panda lineages:

  • Grandparents: Tian Tian (添添) and Mei Xiang (美香) — the Smithsonian pair
  • Mother: Bao Bao (宝宝) — born in Washington D.C.
  • Aunts/Uncles: Tai Shan (泰山), Bei Bei (贝贝), Xiao Qi Ji (小奇迹)
  • Herself: Dun Dun — now in Vienna

Life Journey

Dun Dun lived at the Dujiangyan Base from 2021. In 2023, internet rumors claimed she would be sent to the US, but CCRCGP officially denied this, noting that she was too young and genetically related to US pandas.

Vienna (2025–present)

On April 23, 2025, Dun Dun (renamed Lan Yun/兰韵) and male panda He Feng (荷风/科源) departed for Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna, Austria — the same zoo where Long Hui and Yang Yang lived for two decades. They will stay for 10 years.

On May 14, 2025, they made their public debut at the newly renovated panda pavilion, continuing the Sino-Austrian panda program that began in 2003.
