Short version
Jian Jian (健健, studbook #1001) is a male giant panda born June 26, 2016 at Macau's Seac Pai Van Park — the first panda ever born in Macau. Twin of Kang Kang, he is the more active and playful of the pair, with a round head, fluffy fur, and thick limbs. Weighing 126 kg by age 5, he is part of Macau's beloved "Happy Family" (开心家族).
Jian Jian (Chinese: 健健, “Healthy”), studbook number 1001, is a male giant panda born on June 26, 2016 at the Macau Seac Pai Van Park panda pavilion. He and his twin brother Kang Kang are the first giant pandas ever born in Macau.
His parents are Ya Lin (娅林/Kai Kai, studbook 726) and Shu Rong (蜀蓉/Xin Xin) — the pair gifted to Macau in 2015.
Together with their parents, they are known as Macau’s “Happy Family” (开心家族).
The twin brothers have distinct appearances:
Personality-wise, Jian Jian is the more active and playful of the two. He weighs 126 kg (age 5) compared to Kang Kang’s 107 kg.
Named through a Macau-wide contest with over 1,700 submissions, the twins’ names “Jian Jian” and “Kang Kang” together form “健康” (health), complementing their parents “Kai Kai” and “Xin Xin” (开心 = happiness).
At age 4, the brothers were separated into individual enclosures for behavioral training. The Macau keepers have trained the entire “Happy Family” to voluntarily participate in medical checks — including blood draws and blood pressure measurements — without anesthesia. Enrichment activities include hiding bamboo and treats in pools and burlap sacks for foraging games.
