Short version
Kang Kang (康康, studbook #1002) is a male giant panda born June 26, 2016 at Macau's Seac Pai Van Park — the first pandas ever born in Macau. Twin of Jian Jian, he was named through a territory-wide public contest. Weighing 107 kg by age 5, he is known for his pointed head, narrow snout, and affectionate, cuddly personality.
Kang Kang (Chinese: 康康, “Healthy”), studbook number 1002, is a male giant panda born on June 26, 2016 at the Macau Seac Pai Van Park panda pavilion. He is the son of Ya Lin (娅林/Kai Kai) and Shu Rong (蜀蓉/Xin Xin) — the pair gifted to Macau in 2015 for the 15th anniversary of Macau’s return to China.
His twin brother is Jian Jian (健健, studbook 1001).
In July 2016, the Macau government launched a public naming contest. Over 1,700 name pairs were submitted. After review, the government selected “Jian Jian” (健健) and “Kang Kang” (康康) — together forming “健康” (healthy), complementing their parents’ names “Kai Kai” (开开) and “Xin Xin” (心心), which together form “开心” (happy).
Kang Kang is described as having a pointed head, narrow snout, and forward-folding ears. He is the more affectionate of the twin pair, known for acting cute and seeking attention from keepers — a “mama’s boy” personality.
At age 4, Kang Kang was separated from his brother Jian Jian to begin individual behavioral training, a standard practice for sub-adult pandas. By age 5, he weighed 107 kg, and his keepers focused on balanced nutrition and muscle development.
Annual birthday celebrations at Macau feature custom fruit-and-ice cakes, with school children invited to participate in recent years.
