Short version
Qian Jin (芊金, studbook #1118) is a female giant panda born October 10, 2017 at Shanghai Wildlife Park. Daughter of Qian Qian, she is known as the "大小姐" (Miss Prim) for her gentle, ladylike demeanor. Famous for her love of "makeup" enrichment toys — bamboo lipstick and eyeshadow palettes. In August 2025, she gave birth to Shanghai's first "second-generation" panda twins: Qian Ran and Qian Yi.
Qian Jin (Chinese: 芊金, studbook number 1118) is a female giant panda born on October 10, 2017 at Shanghai Wildlife Park. Her mother is Qian Qian (芊芊), making her part of the Shanghai-bred panda lineage. By 2021, she weighed 120 kg.
She is known at the park as “大小姐” (Miss Prim) — a name earned through her gentle, elegant, and ladylike personality.
Qian Jin’s keepers describe her as gentle, graceful, and beautiful. She has become famous for her enthusiastic response to beauty-themed enrichment toys:
These toys were custom-designed by her keepers, and Qian Jin showed intense interest in them, often holding and examining them with visible delight.
Shanghai Wildlife Park has held elaborate birthday parties for Qian Jin every year:
On August 22, 2025, at 4:11 PM and 5:17 PM, Qian Jin gave birth to twin cubs — a female weighing 200g and a male weighing 160g. This was the first birth of a “second-generation” panda in Shanghai (daughter of Shanghai-born Qian Qian), and only the second twin birth in the park’s history.
The cubs were named Qian Ran (芊然, female) and Qian Yi (芊逸, male) on November 18, 2025, announced during the park’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.
The keepers used artificial rearing combined with cub-swapping technology to ensure both cubs received maternal care while staying healthy. By their one-month checkup on September 22, both weighed approximately 1,300 g.
