Rong Rong is a female giant panda born on 2016-08-06 at Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park. She is registered under studbook number 1259 in the global giant panda breeding registry, and remains alive as of the most recent population surveys. She is the offspring of Wei Wei, studbook number 1145, and Xian Xian, studbook number 1035. Both of her parents are captive-bred giant pandas housed at Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park as part of the facility’s coordinated breeding program. Currently living at Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park in Guangdong, China, he/she participates in China’s national giant panda conservation breeding program. The program is managed in partnership between the China Wildlife Conservation Association and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, focused on increasing genetic diversity of the captive giant panda population. As a captive-born giant panda, Rong Rong displays typical species traits including daily bamboo consumption and regular climbing activity. She is a popular attraction for domestic and international visitors to Guangzhou Chimelong, raising public awareness of giant panda conservation. Her inclusion in the coordinated breeding program helps support long-term efforts to maintain a healthy, viable captive population for the species.
