Chapultepec Zoo, located in the Chapultepec Forest of Ciudad de México, is one of the oldest and most biologically diverse zoological institutions in Latin America. Founded in 1924 by Mexican biologist Alfonso L. Herrera, the zoo houses more than 2,000 animals representing 250 species, including critical endangered taxa such as *Ailuropoda melanoleuca* (giant panda), *Panthera onca* (jaguar), *Ara militaris* (military macaw), and *Cynomys mexicanus* (Mexican prairie dog).
