Basic Profile

Hua Bao (Chinese: 华宝, studbook number 949), nicknamed “Xin Xiao Pang” (新小胖), is a male giant panda born on June 25, 2015 at the Wolong Hetaoping Base of the China Conservation and Research Center.

His father is Jin Ke (津柯, studbook 743) and his mother is Xin Ni’er (新妮儿, studbook 692). He has a twin brother, Xin Bao (新宝, studbook 950), and a famous half-sister — Hua Ni (华妮, studbook 1075), who went to Korea’s Everland and became the mother of Fu Bao (福宝).

Birth

In March 2015, Xin Ni’er entered estrus and was successfully paired twice with Jin Ke on March 10, completing natural mating. This was Jin Ke’s first time breeding — at 6 years old, he became a father for the first time.

On June 25, 2015, at 3:10 PM, Xin Ni’er gave birth to twin male cubs. Hua Bao weighed 152 grams at birth, while his brother Xin Bao weighed 177 grams. Both were healthy and vigorous.

Life Journey

Hua Bao spent his early years at the Wolong Hetaoping and Shenshuping bases before being transferred.

On September 15, 2017, Hua Bao, Xin Bao, together with two other pandas — Wen Hui (文惠) and Ya Mei (雅美) — were moved to Baoding Aibao Wildlife World (保定爱保野生动物世界) in Hebei Province, where they continue to reside.
