Narrative

Life story

Start with a concise summary, then continue into the full narrative record for Hua Sheng.

Short version

Hua Sheng (华生, studbook #856) was a male giant panda born on September 5, 2012 at the Ya'an Bifengxia Base. Son of Ying Hua (#566), he passed away as a cub in early 2013. His sire is not definitively documented — records variously suggest Bai Yang (#623) or Mei Sheng (美生), with Mei Sheng being the more commonly recorded name.

Basic Profile

Hua Sheng (Chinese: 华生), studbook number 856, was a male giant panda born on September 5, 2012 at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Pandas (CCRCGP). His mother is Ying Hua (瑛华, studbook 566). He passed away as a cub in early 2013, at only a few months old.

⚠️ Number correction (2026-09): Earlier versions of this page recorded studbook 1071 and a 2017 birth — both incorrect. Hua Sheng’s official studbook number is 856, born 2012-09-05. Studbook 1071 actually belongs to Zhang Ka’s 2017 female cub (a different panda, not yet profiled on this site).

⚠️ Sire undetermined: Unlike the sibling lists on several pages (which imply Bai Yang, #623), published records variously name Bai Yang (白杨) or Mei Sheng (美生) as the sire. Pending studbook verification, the father is recorded here as undetermined.

Not to be confused with

  • Hua Sheng (花生, #1073) — the Shanghai-born female cub of Guo Guo, profiled separately on this site.
  • Mei Qian (美茜, #631) — a different panda whose page was previously (and wrongly) numbered 856 as a duplicate stub; that stub has been removed in favor of the correct #631 profile.
