Jia Mei (Chinese: 家美), studbook number 973, is a female giant panda born on August 15, 2015 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Ya’an Bifengxia Base. Her mother is Jin Xin (锦心, studbook 672).

Through her mother Jin Xin, Jia Mei’s siblings include Jia He (家和), Zhen Sheng (震生, studbook 1092) — the Hexagonal Warrior, Qian Bao (倩宝, studbook 1093) — the NetEase gymnast, Nian Nian (念念), Zhi Lu/Shan Zai (知路/善仔), and Rong Rong (荣荣/锦小七).

Offspring

Twins: Qing Zai and Qing Bao (2021)

On September 12, 2021, Jia Mei gave birth to twins fathered by Qing Qing (青青):

  • Qing Zai (青仔), nicknamed Mei Nian Da (美年达) — male. As a cub, his mother accidentally scratched his nose, leaving a small scar that earned him the nickname “Dao Ba Da” (刀疤达, Scar Da)
  • Qing Bao (青宝/美心), studbook 1375 — female. She inherited her mother’s fluffy “exploding” fur and has a rounder face than her brother. In October 2024, she traveled to the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington D.C. with male Bao Li (宝力) for a 10-year合作

2025 Twins

On August 28, 2025, Jia Mei gave birth to another pair of twins. Tragically, the male cub died on April 3, 2026 from acute respiratory distress syndrome complicated by heart failure, despite 60+ hours of intensive care.
