Short version

Qian Bao (倩宝, studbook #1093) is a male giant panda born August 3, 2017 at Wolong Shenshuping Base. Twin of Zhen Sheng and son of Jin Xin, he was adopted by NetEase in 2019 and named after the game "New Qian Nv You Hun." He lives at Shijiazhuang Zoo, where he is known as the "acrobat panda" — performing pull-ups, flips, and dismantling enrichment toys with professional-grade dedication.

Basic Profile

Qian Bao (Chinese: 倩宝), studbook number 1093, is a male giant panda born on August 3, 2017 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Wolong Shenshuping Base. His mother is Jin Xin (锦心, studbook 672), one of the center’s most productive breeding females. His twin sister is Zhen Sheng (震生) — the “Hexagonal Warrior” of Yancheng.

He was named after the online game “New Qian Nv You Hun” (新倩女幽魂) by his adopter, NetEase.

Siblings

Through his mother Jin Xin, Qian Bao has an extensive sibling network:

  • Zhen Sheng (震生) — twin sister, at Yancheng Dafeng Port Zoo
  • Jia He (家和) — brother, at Guangzhou Chimelong
  • Jia Mei (家美) — sister, mother of Qing Zai and Qing Bao
  • Nian Nian (念念) — sister, at Yangzhou Expo Garden
  • Shan Zai (善仔/知路) — brother, at Shaanxi Yangxian Huayang
  • Rong Rong (荣荣/锦小七) — brother, Qi Zai’s son at Qinling

The “Acrobat Panda”

Qian Bao has earned a reputation at Shijiazhuang Zoo as the “整活儿” (acrobat) panda — a term used for performers who can pull off impressive stunts. His repertoire includes:

  • Pull-ups on horizontal bars — he grips the bars in his enclosure and performs multiple controlled pull-ups
  • Backward flips — he has been observed executing complete flips off climbing structures
  • Toy dismantling — enrichment toys are systematically disassembled, not destroyed

Life Journey

NetEase Adoption (April 2019)

In April 2019, Qian Bao was lifelong adopted by NetEase (网易) through the Zhejiang NetEase Charity Foundation. He was named after the studio’s popular game New Qian Nv You Hun (新倩女幽魂), a title that continues to feature panda-themed content as part of the sponsorship.

Shijiazhuang (2020–present)

On September 10, 2020, Qian Bao was transferred to Shijiazhuang Zoo in Hebei Province. He quickly became the zoo’s main attraction, with visitors specifically coming to watch his acrobatic routines.

In August 2023, the zoo celebrated his 6th birthday with an elaborate setup: a clear ice table displayed a spread of bamboo shoot-based dishes, bamboo cups filled with honey water (served like wine goblets), and a watermelon carved into a panda face. Qian Bao approached the display with his characteristic athleticism, surveying the spread before selecting his preferred treats.
