Jiu Jiu

Basic Profile

Jiu Jiu (Chinese: 久久) is a male giant panda born on September 6, 2021, at Zoo Aquarium de Madrid in Spain. He holds the global studbook number 1270.

His parents are Bing Xing (冰星, studbook 721) and Hua Zui Ba (花嘴巴, studbook 576). He has an older sister Zhu Li Na (竹莉娜) and a twin brother You You (友友, studbook 1271).

Naming

On December 17, 2021, at the 100-day naming ceremony, the twins were named “Jiu Jiu” (久久, meaning “Forever”) and “You You” (友友, “Friendship”). Together, the names symbolize the everlasting friendship between China and Spain.

Appearance

Jiu Jiu has a large round face with a short muzzle and slightly fluffy cheeks, giving him a dignified, commanding appearance. He has a sturdy build with distinctly bright black-and-white fur. He is calm by nature and loves climbing trees.

Life in Madrid

Public Debut

On March 21, 2022, during Madrid Zoo’s 50th-anniversary celebration, the 6-month-old twins made their first public appearance. Each weighed approximately 15 kg at the time.

Return to China

On February 29, 2024, Jiu Jiu departed Madrid with his family — Bing Xing, Hua Zui Ba, Zhu Li Na, and You You — aboard flight CA3102. The family arrived in Chengdu on March 1, 2024, under the Sino-Spanish agreement requiring overseas-born cubs to return.

Life at Guangzhou Zoo

In September 2025, Jiu Jiu and You You were transferred to Guangzhou Zoo for a five-year educational exchange. On September 16, 2025, they flew from Chengdu to Guangzhou aboard China Southern Airlines flight CZ3414.

On October 20, 2025, Jiu Jiu officially debuted to the public at Guangzhou Zoo’s newly built panda house, joining Xing Yi (星一) and Ya Yi (雅一) to form the “National Treasure F4” alongside You You.
