Xi Dou

Xi Dou (Chinese: 喜豆, studbook number 654) is a female giant panda born on September 24, 2006 at the CCRCGP Hetaoping Base in Wolong, Sichuan. Her birth weight was 163.0 grams.

Her mother is Mao Mao (毛毛), making her siblings include Wang Wang (网网, Adelaide Zoo) and Wen Yu (文雨).

The “Dou” Family

Xi Dou’s name carries the character “豆” (bean), and her descendants continue this naming tradition: Pan Qing’s daughters are called “Dou Jia” (豆荚) and “Dou Miao” (豆苗), and her sons Jing Jing and Dou Dou are the “twin beans.”

First Litter (2016): The Heaviest Twins

On August 4, 2016, Xi Dou gave birth to her first litter — twins that set a CCRCGP record:

• Hong Xi (鸿禧, male, 181.7g)
• Pan Qing (盼青, female, 220g)

These were the heaviest newborn twin pair in CCRCGP history. Both inherited Xi Dou’s iconic pouty mouth and round face (嘟嘟嘴和圆圆脸), earning them the nicknames “Dou Ge” and “Dou Mei.”
