Dou Dou

Dou Dou (Chinese: 豆豆) is a male giant panda born on September 19, 2018, at the Wolong Shenshuping Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas. He holds the global studbook number 1165. His mother is Xi Dou (喜豆, studbook 654), a prolific female known for her excellent maternal care.

Family

Dou Dou is part of a large family:

• Jing Jing (京京/贰豆): Twin brother. Traveled to Qatar in October 2022 alongside Si Hai (四海), becoming one of the first pandas in the Middle East
• Hong Xi (鸿禧): Older half-brother (2016), transferred to Lanzhou Zoo in April 2024
• Pan Qing (盼青): Older half-sister (2016), mother of Qing Hua (青花) and Qing Lu (青露)
• Xi Dou 2017 Cub: Older half-sister (2017)
• Chao Tian Jiao (巢天骄): Younger half-brother (2020)
• Hong Dou (红豆) and Yun Dou (芸豆): Younger half-siblings (2024 twins)

Appearance & Personality

Dou Dou is instantly recognizable among panda fans for his distinctive facial fur pattern, which earned him the affectionate nickname “Zhang Fei Face” (张飞脸) — a reference to the famous Three Kingdoms warrior known for his fierce appearance. He has a lean, athletic build described by fans as “solid muscle,” with notably snow-white fur that remains exceptionally clean and bright.

As a young adult male, Dou Dou exhibits typical giant panda behaviors including long sleeping hours and a hearty appetite.

Current Status

Dou Dou has lived at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base since approximately September 2020. Recent reports from 2026 suggest he may have also been observed at the Shenshuping Base, as panda locations can shift based on management needs. He has matured from a playful juvenile into a handsome young adult.
