Xin Yue (Chinese: 新月, meaning “New Moon”), studbook number 565, is a female giant panda born on August 14, 2003 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Hetaoping Base in Wolong, Sichuan. Her father is Pan Pan (盼盼, studbook 308) and her mother is Long Gu (龙古, also known as Quan Quan 泉泉, studbook 460).

Life Journey

Early Years (2003-2007)

Xin Yue spent her early years at the Wolong Hetaoping Base.

Chimelong Safari Park (2007-2008)

On January 31, 2007, Xin Yue was transferred to Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou, Guangdong. She returned to the Hetaoping Base on March 28, 2008, and was moved to the Ya’an Bifengxia Base on June 28, 2008.

Suzhou Years (2011-2025)

On September 7, 2011, Xin Yue and another female panda Zhu Yun (竹韵) moved to the Suzhou Taihu National Wetland Park, where they became beloved local icons. During her 14 years in Suzhou, she was known for her lively personality, love of climbing trees, and playful interactions with visitors.

The park celebrated multiple anniversary events for the pair in 2017 (6th anniversary) and 2023 (12th anniversary). Xin Yue was described as weighing 102 kg at age 11.

Return to Sichuan (2025)

On August 24, 2025, Xin Yue returned to Sichuan, settling at the Dujiangyan Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas.
