Zhu Yun (Chinese: 竹韵) is a female giant panda born on July 17, 2002, at the Wolong Hetaoping Base. She holds the global studbook number 549. She is one of the celebrated “Four Beauties of Bamboo, Orchid, Chrysanthemum and Plum” (梅兰竹菊) — a group of four exceptionally beautiful pandas named after the four noble plants in Chinese culture. Her parents are Lei Lei (雷雷, studbook 364) and Da Di (大地, studbook 394).
On September 3, 2008, Zhu Yun gave birth to her first cubs — twin daughters. Although it was her first delivery, she demonstrated strong maternal instincts. The twins were named Hu Bao (沪宝) and Min Min (闽闽). Hu Bao would later travel to Singapore under the name Jia Jia (嘉嘉), while Min Min remained in China.
On July 8, 2010, at 10:04 AM, Zhu Yun gave birth to a male cub weighing 159.9 grams, with a body length of 14.8 cm. This was the first giant panda cub born at the Wolong Center in 2010. The cub was named Jin Hu (金虎) and later resided at Dalian Forest Zoo.
Zhu Yun and another panda named Xin Yue (新月) arrived at Suzhou Taihu National Wetland Park on September 7, 2011. They became beloved attractions in the Suzhou area. On September 7, 2023, the park celebrated their 12th anniversary in Suzhou with special treats including fruits and bamboo.
On August 14, 2025, Suzhou Taihu held a birthday farewell event for Zhu Yun and Xin Yue. The park issued a letter to Suzhou citizens expressing gratitude and promising continued contact with the pandas’ caretakers.
On August 24, 2025, Zhu Yun and Xin Yue departed Suzhou and returned to Sichuan, taking up residence at the Dujiangyan Base of the China Conservation and Research Center.
