Lumi

Lumi is a female giant panda born on 2014-07-10 at China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. She is registered under studbook number 1073 in the global giant panda breeding registry, and maintains healthy adult body mass typical for the species. She is the offspring of Lu Lu and Xi Mei. Both parents are captive-bred giant pandas housed at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, with established lineages within the coordinated captive breeding program. Currently living at Ahtari Zoo, he/she participates in the international ex-situ conservation breeding program for giant pandas. The program is coordinated between the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens and global host institutions to support long-term species protection and public education. As a captive-bred giant panda, Lumi displays characteristic foraging behaviors, spending 10 to 12 hours daily consuming bamboo. She is a major cultural attraction for Ahtari Zoo, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to learn about giant panda conservation. Her presence supports global public outreach and research on giant panda biology, contributing to ongoing conservation efforts for the species.
