She is the offspring of wild, unstudied giant panda parents, with no formal studbook records for her sire and dam. Currently living at Ocean Park Hong Kong, she participates in the park’s public education programming focused on giant panda conservation, before her death in 2016 at the age of 38. Giant panda Jia Jia was known for her calm, docile demeanor and frequent interactions with visiting guests. As one of the longest-lived captive giant pandas on record, she drew millions of domestic and international visitors to Ocean Park Hong Kong, raising global public awareness of giant panda protection.
