Jia Jia is a female giant panda born on 1 January 1978 in the wild of Sichuan Province, China, before being transferred to Beijing Zoo as a juvenile. She is the offspring of wild, unstudied giant panda parents, with no formal studbook records for her sire and dam. Currently living at Ocean Park Hong Kong, she participates in the park’s public education programming focused on giant panda conservation, before her death in 2016 at the age of 38. She contributed to research on captive giant panda aging, supporting long-term conservation efforts for the species.
