Jin Bao Bao

Jin Bao Bao (Chinese name: 金宝宝) is a female giant panda with the international studbook number 1277, born on August 31, 2014 at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. Her parents are Tian Tian and Ya Ya, both registered individuals under the coordinated giant panda conservation breeding program overseen by Chinese wildlife authorities, placing Jin Bao Bao within a well-documented lineage of captive pandas managed to preserve the species’ genetic diversity. She is formally recorded as a healthy living individual in global giant panda population registries, and her birth contributed to the annual growth of the ex-situ captive panda population that forms a core buffer against wild population decline.

On August 31, 2015, her first birthday, Jin Bao Bao was transferred to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where she resides as of current records. She is an active participant in the base’s ex-situ conservation breeding program, which is designed to maintain a genetically robust captive population and support potential future reintroduction initiatives for pandas into suitable restored wild habitats. Her care and monitoring follow standardized captive panda management protocols developed through decades of collaborative research between Chinese conservation institutions and global wildlife experts.
