Ai Hin

Ai Hin (Chinese name 爱滨, studbook number 650) is a female giant panda born on December 23, 2006 at Adventure World, the product of a planned artificial insemination program implemented by the facility’s veterinary and conservation teams. Her father is Ei Mei (studbook number 390, also documented as Ba Ke in official breeding records) and her mother is Rau Hin (studbook number 515, also documented as Liang Bin), both captive giant pandas with fully registered lineages in the global giant panda studbook system maintained by international captive breeding coordination programs. On her first birthday, December 23, 2007, Ai Hin was transferred to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China, where she has resided continuously in the years since.

As a participant in the Chengdu Research Base’s coordinated captive breeding program, which operates under the framework of China’s national giant panda conservation initiative, Ai Hin contributes to core efforts to manage and expand the genetic diversity of the global captive giant panda population. Her distinct genetic profile fills a notable gap in the existing captive gene pool, reducing the risk of inbreeding and supporting the long-term resilience of the species as conservation programs work to maintain viable populations both in human care and, eventually, for potential reintroduction to suitable wild habitats.

Ai Hin exhibits typical healthy adult giant panda behaviors, including consuming up to 18 kilograms of bamboo each day as part of her regular foraging routine. She is a consistent draw for domestic and international visitors to the Chengdu Research Base, with her public enclosure serving as a key site for informal conservation education. Visitors observing her natural behaviors gain exposure to information about giant panda habitat loss, the role of captive breeding in species survival, and ongoing efforts to protect wild panda populations across their historic range in central China.
