Jin Hu

Jin Hu (Chinese name 金虎, studbook number 783) is a male giant panda born on July 8, 2010 at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. His birth was part of the coordinated national captive giant panda management program, which seeks to maintain a genetically robust, self-sustaining captive population of the vulnerable species. He is officially registered in the global captive giant panda breeding registry, with his parentage formally documented: his father is Pan Pan (studbook number 496) and his mother is Qing Qing (studbook number 529), both longstanding participants in the China Conservation and Research Center’s breeding efforts whose lineage traces to wild-origin giant panda stock, making Jin Hu a valuable contributor to genetic diversity within the captive population.

On July 8, 2011, his first birthday, Jin Hu was transferred to Dalian Forest Zoo in Liaoning Province, where he has resided permanently since. The zoo adheres to national captive giant panda care standards for his management: his enclosure is designed to encourage natural foraging and resting behaviors, and he receives routine comprehensive health checks from specialized veterinary staff as part of ongoing species monitoring protocols.
