⚠️ Not the famous Chengdu Miao Miao (studbook #855): readers searching “淼淼” usually mean the Chengdu-born star panda nicknamed “影后淼” / “六水公主” / “谭心淼” — born 2012-09-04 at the Chengdu Research Base, dam Jiao Zi (娇子), sire Yong Yong (勇勇), raised by keepers Yuan Yuan / Cheng Ji / Li Li, one of the “挖煤三巨头” with Yuan Run and Ao Li Ge, and mother of Jin Yu (#1148), Jin Shuang, Jin Xi and Jin Rui; still alive as of her 14th birthday on 2026-09-04. That bear is a different individual from the one on this page. This page documents the CCRCGP-line Miao Miao (#863), the 2013 twin sister of Xin Xin (#862) and daughter of Hai Zi (#544).

⚠️ Provenance & sire caveat (2026-09): The #863 identity rests on fan-archive-level evidence (Douyin studbook dossiers: “淼淼，雌性，谱系号 863，2013-06-22 和姐姐鑫鑫生于雅安碧峰峡，妈妈海子”), supported by the adjacent-numbering convention with Xin Xin #862 (confirmed on Baidu Baike with high confidence) — not yet by an official studbook entry. The sire is recorded here as Bai Yang (#623), consistent with her twin Xin Xin; one Douyin record mis-lists the sire as Yi Bao (依宝), who is in fact the sire of Ding Ding and You You (Hai Zi’s 2017 litter), not of this 2013 twin. Sire attribution pending studbook confirmation. The dam, Hai Zi (#544), is undisputed.

⚠️ Number correction (2026-09): Earlier site versions assigned #863 to a template stub page named “Zhu Zhu (珠珠)” with contradictory birth dates (2012-07-15 / 2012-08-02) and unsourced parentage — that page has been removed. The separate panda Zhu Zhu (珠珠, #509, b. 2000-08-06) is unaffected.

Basic Profile

Miao Miao (Chinese: 淼淼), studbook number 863, is a female giant panda born on June 22, 2013 at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base. She and her twin sister Xin Xin (鑫鑫, #862) were the first captive-bred giant panda twins born after the 2013 Lushan (Ya’an) earthquake of April 20, 2013. Miao Miao was the smaller twin, weighing just 79.2 g at birth against Xin Xin’s 153 g. Her name, like her sister’s, reflects Ya’an’s identity as the “Rain City” — chosen with the wish for plentiful, nourishing rain.

Her mother is Hai Zi (海子, studbook 544) — born in the wild in Mianning, Sichuan in 1994 and rescued in 1996, now residing in the Dujiangyan Base care area. Her father is recorded as Bai Yang (白杨, studbook 623) (see provenance caveat above).

In autumn 2014, Miao Miao died of illness — roughly seventeen months after birth.
