Da Zhai

Basic Profile

Da Zhai (Chinese: 平平大崽, lit. “Ping Ping’s older cub”), studbook number 1060, was a female giant panda born on May 27, 2017 at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base, where her mother Ping Ping (平平, #704) had returned on 2017-01-10. She was the elder of twin daughters; their sire is not recorded on this site. She died as a cub in February 2018 during the canine distemper outbreak at the Bifengxia nursery.

⚠️ Number correction (2026-09): Earlier site versions filed #1060 as a fabricated template page named “Ai You (爱友)” with invented parentage (four mutually inconsistent versions of “1053/1054” were circulated across that junk cluster). The stub was deleted. Per the 2018 Bilibili archive footage of the Bifengxia nursery and Baidu Baike’s Ping Ping (#704) offspring list, #1060 is Ping Ping’s 2017 elder daughter. A panda actually nicknamed Ai You (友友) belongs to the ~#1270 Spanish twin group (sibling of Jiu Jiu #1270, born 2021-09-06) — unrelated to this number.

📝 Sex note: Baidu Baike lists Ping Ping’s 2017 twins both as daughters; Douban’s Ping Ping feature calls them a 龙凤胎 (male–female pair). Sex recorded per Baike; twin status noted.
