Basic Profile
Yao Xin (Chinese: 姚欣), studbook number 760, is a female giant panda born on September 27, 2009 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Ya’an Bifengxia Base. Her mother is Guo Guo (帼帼) and her twin sister is Yao Man (姚蔓).
Life Journey
Yao Xin was first sent to the Sanjiang Eco-tourism Area on March 10, 2012. She returned to Bifengxia in January 2013.
On January 23, 2015, after an 8-hour transport, Yao Xin arrived at Wenling Changyudongtian Panda Museum in Taizhou, Zhejiang — becoming the first female panda ever housed at that facility. She celebrated her arrival by doing excited somersaults in her new enclosure.
She was paired with male panda Huan Huan (欢欢), selected for their compatible genetics. Initially separated by barriers, they communicated through scent and sound before eventually being housed together in a 2,000-square-meter facility.
Yao Xin weighs approximately 90 kg and is described as loving fruit and wowotou (steamed panda bread). Her 16th birthday in 2025 was celebrated with fan contributions of her favorite treats.
