Shu Lin

Basic Profile

Shu Lin (Chinese: 蜀琳), studbook number 666, is a male giant panda born on July 5, 2007 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. His father is Lin Lin (琳琳) and his mother is Shu Qing (蜀庆).

His siblings include Yong Yong (勇勇), Shu Rong (蜀蓉) — the female who was gifted to Macau as “Xin Xin” — Shu Xiang (蜀祥), and Shu Yun (蜀云).

Life Journey

Science Ambassador (2009)

On October 21, 2009, Shu Lin traveled to the Anji Bamboo Garden in Hubei as a “Science Ambassador” for panda conservation education.

Liuzhou Zoo (2013–present)

On January 31, 2013, Shu Lin was transferred to Liuzhou Zoo in Guangxi. He has lived there ever since, in a newly built 2,000-square-meter panda pavilion featuring a “three-bedroom, one-living-room with a garden” layout.

Shu Lin is described as proud, independent, and playful — he enjoys climbing trees and often engages in battles of wits with his keepers. His annual birthdays at Liuzhou have become notable events:

• 2023 (age 16): A whole durian cake was prepared, along with fruit skewers
• 2024 (age 17): A “Lotus Pond Moonlight” themed celebration with a fruit cake featuring durian, watermelon, corn, and nectarines, arranged on a bamboo boat with lotus decorations
• 2025 (age 18): Fans from across the country attended, lining up outside the panda pavilion
