Basic Profile

Ni Na (Chinese: 妮娜), studbook number 1082, is a female giant panda born on July 20, 2017 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. She weighed only 91 grams at birth — among the smallest surviving panda cubs ever recorded.

Her mother is Ni Ni (妮妮). She has a twin brother named Ni Ke (妮可), and her older sisters include Da Ni (大妮, studbook 965) and Xiao Ni (小妮). Together, they form part of the Chengdu Base’s “Olympic Baby” lineage.

The Meditator

Ni Na is described by her keepers as a quiet, contemplative panda. While her siblings and peers engage in rough play and climbing competitions, Ni Na prefers to find a comfortable tree fork, settle in, and gaze into the distance — a habit that keepers and fans have dubbed “meditating on cat life” (冥想猫生).

She has a particular fondness for bamboo shoots and apples, and is known to be peaceful and agreeable in social settings, rarely getting into conflicts with her enclosure mates.
