| Comparison | Contrasts with her more活泼 twin sister Tou Hin |
The twin sisters look so similar that even keepers sometimes struggle to tell them apart! But Sakura Hin’s calm demeanor and Tou Hin’s playful energy are the key distinguishing traits.
Sakura Hin was born on December 2, 2014 at 11:39 AM at Adventure World in Shirahama, Japan. Her twin sister Tou Hin arrived 33 minutes later at 12:12 PM. Together they weighed approximately 180 grams each — healthy cubs born to experienced mother Rau Hin.
On February 6, 2015, after a public naming contest, the twins received their names:
“樱浜” (Sakura Hin) — Like Japan’s cherry blossoms (sakura), may she bring warmth, love, and happiness to all who see her. A wish for her to grow healthy and magnanimous.
“桃浜” (Tou Hin) — Like peach blossoms (which originated in China), may she be loved by many, carrying wishes for peace and happiness.
On May 21, 2015, Sakura Hin, Tou Hin, and mother Rau Hin made their first outdoor public appearance at Adventure World’s outdoor exercise yard. NHK captured the moment, showing the pink newborns now transformed into playful black-and-white cubs.
On December 29, 2022, Adventure World announced that Eimei, Sakura Hin, and Tou Hin would be returned to China on February 22, 2023. Sakura Hin and Tou Hin — now of breeding age — were returning to find mates and contribute to the conservation breeding program.
On February 21, 2023, Adventure World held an emotional farewell ceremony attended by approximately 2,000 Japanese visitors. Staff played a video montage of the pandas’ lives in Japan, and many fans wept as they said goodbye.
On February 22, 2023, the three pandas departed from Kansai International Airport aboard a charter flight. They arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport at 23:10 Beijing time, and were transported to the Chengdu Research Base for a one-month quarantine period.
After completing quarantine, Sakura Hin was expected to be publicly unveiled at Chengdu Base by the end of March 2023. As a female of breeding age, she is slated to participate in the conservation breeding program.
In September 2023, during her father Eimei’s 31st birthday celebration at Chengdu Base, a video was shown of Sakura Hin’s life after回国. She appeared healthy, calm, and well-adjusted to her new environment.
Sakura Hin resides at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. She is expected to be matched with a suitable mate as part of the coordinated breeding program, continuing the legacy of the Hama Family in China.
