Short version

Yong Hin (永浜, studbook #738), nicknamed "Lazy Hin," is a male giant panda born September 13, 2008 at Adventure World, Japan. Twin of Mei Hin, he was part of the first AI-conceived twin pair in Japan. He is famous for his exceptionally relaxed personality — so laid-back that he sometimes won't bother eating if the food is too far away.

Basic Profile

Yong Hin (Chinese: 永浜, nicknamed Lan Hin/懒浜 — “Lazy Hin”), studbook number 738, is a male giant panda born on September 13, 2008 at Adventure World in Shirahama, Japan. He and his twin sister Mei Hin (梅浜, studbook 737) were the first giant panda twins in Japan conceived through artificial insemination.

His parents are Eimei (永明) and Rau Hin (良浜).

The Laziest Panda

Yong Hin is legendary among keepers for his extraordinarily relaxed personality. He walks slowly, eats slowly, and has been known to skip meals entirely — even his favorite wowotou — if the food is placed too far away or he’s too comfortable to move. During training exercises where keepers hold bamboo poles with treats to encourage standing, Yong Hin simply stays seated and watches. Other pandas jump up immediately; Yong Hin evaluates whether the effort is worth the reward.

Life Journey

On February 26, 2013, Yong Hin and Mei Hin returned to China, settling at the Chengdu Research Base. He moved to the Dujiangyan Panda Valley in January 2018 before returning to the Chengdu Base in April 2018.
