Fuhin

Fuhin (Chinese name 枫浜), a female giant panda with the international studbook number 1138, was born on November 22, 2020, at Adventure World in Japan. Her birth marked a notable milestone for the facility’s long-running giant panda conservation partnership, and her official studbook registration placed her in the global standardized tracking system that monitors the genetic diversity and demographic health of all captive giant panda populations worldwide. She is the offspring of two long-term resident giant pandas at Adventure World: her father Eimei, registered under studbook number 416, and her mother Meimei, registered under studbook number 554.

Fuhin has resided at Adventure World for her entire life to date, as part of the facility’s ex-situ giant panda conservation breeding program. This program operates under formal cooperative agreements between Japanese and Chinese wildlife conservation authorities, which are designed to maintain genetically robust captive populations as a safeguard for the species, which faces ongoing habitat pressures in its native range in central China. As a young, healthy individual, Fuhin contributes to the genetic diversity of the global captive panda population, a key priority for long-term species conservation planning.

Beyond her role in formal conservation programs, Fuhin serves as a prominent public ambassador for giant panda protection. Her playful daily behaviors, which are visible to visitors during public exhibit hours, have made her a popular draw at Adventure World, drawing tens of thousands of visitors each year.
